Oriental Herbal Medicine

Accreditation and Validation of the Oriental Herbal Medicine Course

Our professional Oriental herbal medicine programme has recognition with the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM), which registers practitioners of Chinese Herbal Medicine in the UK. As with the BAcC, RCHM members are bound by their regulations and work to a Code of Safe Practice. The RCHM also set standards for the education of herbalists that affiliated colleges must adhere to. Graduates from our Oriental Herbal Medicine course are eligible to apply for membership of this professional body.

The RCHM is also a member of the European Herbal & Traditional Medicine Practitioners' Association (EHTPA), an umbrella organisation representing the Western, Oriental and Ayurvedic herbal traditions.

The EHTPA have a formal accreditation process to comply with requirements for statutory regulation and government recognition in due course. LCTA’s course in Oriental Herbal Medicine has been accredited by the EHTPA until 2008.

Our Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) and Masters (MSc) courses in Oriental Herbal Medicine have also been validated by the University of East London.

About our course in Oriental Herbal Medicine

This course provides an understanding of the properties, actions and application of over 200 commonly used herbs and around 100 commonly used formulae across 30 disease categories. Subjects to be mastered include qi, taste and channels entered. In addition to your classes at LCTA you will attend a weekend course in Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy in association with the Chinese Medicine Herb Garden in Bristol and a day at Kew Gardens. In your clinical year you have the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge, reflective practice and the practical skills you have acquired within a supervised clinical practice.

We run courses in Oriental Herbal Medicine at postgraduate level for qualified TCM practitioners. You can also combine the postgraduate herbal medicine course with the undergraduate acupuncture course to become qualified in both disciplines.
