Student Support

Studying at a private college is a unique experience. With us, your class sizes will be small, we will all know your name and you will really feel like part of our family. We are dedicated to supporting you and keeping a personal contact with each and every one of you throughout your course.

Tutors
Experience tells us that training to be a therapist tends to bring up issues of personal development for our students. Experience also tells us that a bit of understanding and somebody to talk to can be just what you need in times of stress. Your Personal Tutor is there for exactly this reason.

From time to time, you may find you need help with tricky parts of the course. These are different for each one of you and so for every subject you learn, you will have an Academic tutor who is there specifically to work with you on a one to one basis. You will have scheduled tutorials from time to time anyway, but feel free to arrange more if you would like to.

You also benefit from some help in planning your study to suit your own learning style and in monitoring your progress. This is different for each one of you so you will agree a personalised Learning Contract with your Tutor at the start of the programme and review it together as often as needed.

The Learning Space
The Learning Space is a student led discussion group, facilitated by Fran Turner, herself an excellent source of creativity and inspiration. The group exists specifically for you as students to use as a forum for discussion of any matters that you want to explore. The Learning Space is open for LCTA students only. Please contact reception to book on 020 8446 3332.

What students say about the Learning Space:

“it has been consistently stimulating and clarifying”

“heartfelt gratitude to Fran for her commitment and enthusiasm”

“we have rediscovered some of the simplicities that can sometimes be momentarily forgotten”

“it reinforces the sense of community in the College”

Open door policy
It is important to us that our students feel they can always talk to us. We have an open door policy, so just pop in when you feel like it and we’ll always do our best to help you out.

We listen to you
Our courses have been running (and improving) for over fifteen years now and the feedback of our students and staff is vital to us. Changes we make are almost always as a result of feedback and this is how we grow and evolve. We didn’t get to be one of the UK’s leading colleges of Oriental medicine all on our own!

In your year group you elect a student representative who will meet with the staff each semester to discuss issues that may arise with respect to the running of the College. In addition, student representatives are invited to participate in staff meetings and to contribute to curriculum review.

“One of the suggestions I gave in a feedback form has actually started happening! At my old University, we did the same but nothing ever changed. Here, I realise that the forms aren’t for nothing - they are read and they do form the basis for improvement to the course. Evaluation works!” Katie, Acupuncture student

So, if you have any feedback on our courses, publicity or the service we offer, please let us know by emailing Bonny on bonnyw@lcta.com.

Here are some things we have done in response to student requests:

  • Installed Pure H20 water purifier in the kitchen
  • Organised extra practice point location classes after college
  • Introduced the Learning Space for student directed discussion
  • Changed our waste disposal system so that we now recycle 80% of our rubbish

Dragons Tale

The Dragons Tale is the College’s quarterly newsletter which has developed into a widely read Chinese medicine magazine. Our students and graduates automatically receive a copy and we always welcome your input. You can download back issues of Dragons Tale on our website.
