Student Support
Studying at a private college is a unique experience. With us, your class sizes will be small, we will all know your name and you will really feel like part of our team.
As people dedicated to supporting you through your course, we pride ourselves on keeping contact with each and every one of you.
Personal Tutors
Experience tells us that training to be a therapist tends to bring up issues of personal development for our students. Experience also tells us that a bit of understanding and somebody to talk to can be just what you need in times of stress. Your personal tutor is there for exactly this reason.
Academic tutors
From time to time, you may find you need help with tricky parts of the course. These are different for each one of you and so for every subject you learn, you will have an academic tutor who is there specifically to work with you on a one to one basis. You will have scheduled tutorials from time to time anyway, but feel free to arrange more if you would like to.
We listen to you
Our courses have been running (and improving) for over ten years now and the feedback of our students and staff is vital to us. Changes we make are almost always as a result of feedback and this is how we change and grow. We didn’t get to be one of the UK’s leading colleges of Oriental medicine all on our own! So, if you have any feedback on our courses, publicity or the service we offer, please let us know by emailing me on bonnyw@lcta.com
Here are some things we have done in response to student requests:
- Installed Pure H20 - reverse osmosis water purifier in the kitchen
- Organised extra practice point location classes after college
- Bought extra computers for the computer room, opening hours 8.30am to 7pm
- We turn around exam results within 48 hours of the exam board meeting
- Introduced the Learning Space for student directed discussion
- We subsidised a psychotherapist to help you through the tough time
The Learning Space
The Learning Space is a student led discussion group, facilitated by Fran Turner, herself an excellent source of creativity and inspiration. The group exists specifically for you as students to use as a forum for discussion of any matters that you want to explore.
The Learning Space is run from 5pm-7pm on the following dates:
- Sunday 2nd March
- Friday 14th March
- Friday 11th April
- Sunday 4th May
- Friday 16th May
- Sunday 1st June
- Sunday 29th June
- Friday 11th July
What students say about the Learning Space:
“it has been consistently stimulating and clarifying”
“heartfelt gratitude to Fran for her commitment and enthusiasm”
“we have rediscovered some of the simplicities that can sometimes be momentarily forgotten”
“it reinforces the sense of community in the College”
Library
Our library is open every day for students’ use. It contains over 1,400 books and 2,000 journals on all things relevant to our courses, from gynaecology to herbal prescriptions, nutrition to study skills, mental health to tongue diagnosis. It is both a lending library and a reference library and there are photocopying facilities for students. Kumarie, who is responsible for the library at LCTA, is normally able to buy books on request. As well as books, the library holds a large selection of journals, CDs, audio tapes and videos, which are used by students and staff as excellent aids to learning. Most students also have access to the University online resources through their Athens accounts.
Computers
The computer room at LCTA is equipped with five computers solely for students' use. There is free internet access and the computer room is open for as long as the College is, normally 8:30 am to 7 pm, 7 days a week. You are encouraged to work on-line and to use available technology to research some of the most up-to-date and exciting developments in the field. We regularly update our list of useful research sites in the computer room. In addition, most students can search a range of on-line databases through the
universities'
Athens link.
