medicine.ucsd.edu/clinicalmed/head.htm - detailed guide to western medicine clinical examination by the University of California.

Pathology Tests:

www.labtestsonline.org.uk - information on laboratory tests written for the public. You can search by test, disease, or patient group. Normal values of tests are not given as reference ranges vary between laboratories depending on the assays used. The site is produced through a collaboration of professional societies representing the clinical laboratory community.

www.tdlpathology.com - The Doctors Laboratory offers a complete range of pathology testing, site contains useful information sheets on some tests.

www.iwdl.net - Individual Wellbeing Diagnostic Laboratories offers more than 60 tests with a focus on nutrition digestion, allergies and hormones. Welcomes CAM practitioners.

www.thediagnosticclinic.com - The Diagnostic Clinic, Dr Sharma's integrated medicine practice in New Cavendish St offers a wide range of diagnostic testing to CAM practitioners.

www.renal.org/CKDguide/ckd.html - from April 2006 in the UK, most local laboratories calculate estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) on all samples sent for creatinine measurement which is part of a standard biochemistry screen. Chronic Kidney Disease is both much more common and more important than previously recognised. The UK Guidelines for the management of Chronic Kidney Disease were published in June 2006. These guidelines suggest ways for identifying and managing kidney disease. The short eGuide is a summary of the guidelines.

www.netdoctor.co.uk/examinations/index.shtml - Common medical imaging & test procedures performed by doctors and specialists in the UK, explained in a clear and straightforward manner.

Pharmacology:

www.bnf.org/bnf/registration.htm - online version of British National Formulary. Free registration.

www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginformation.html - written for the public, includes basic description, cautions, interactions, usage, dosage, storage, and side effects of drugs, includes information on herbs with a grading for available scientific evidence. Note this is US site so drugs names may be US versions.

Research:

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez - PubMed is a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine that includes over 16 million citations from MEDLINE and other life science journals for biomedical articles back to the 1950s. PubMed includes links to full text articles and other related resources.

highwire.stanford.edu - A division of the Stanford University Libraries, HighWire Press hosts the largest repository of free, full-text, peer-reviewed content with 968 journals and 1,394,604 free, full-text articles online (21.8.06).

www.medal.org/visitor/login.aspx - A Medical Algorithm is any computation, formula, survey, or look-up table, useful in healthcare. More than 9500 algorithms, organized into 45 chapters, are available as spreadsheets. Developed by the Institute for Algorithmic Medicine & useful for questionnaires, pain scores, quality of life measurements etc. for monitoring patient response, and for research. Free registration.

Integrative Medicine:

www.library.nhs.uk/cam - Complementary and Alternative Medicine Specialist Library, contains links to a variety of journals including Evidence Based Integrative Medicine, and Integrative Cancer Therapies.

www.compmed.umm.edu/About.html - The University of Maryland School of Medicine Centre for Integrative Practice. Includes patient information leaflets, & The Arthritis and Complementary Medicine Database (ARCAM) and the Complementary and Alternative Medicine and Pain Database (CAMPAIN).

www.fih.org.uk - Prince Charles Foundation for Integrative Health, includes downloads on research and integrating complementary healthcare into primary care.

www.drgascoigne.com/index.html - Dr Stephen Gascoigne is a medical doctor, acupuncturist and herbalist. This site is intended as a resource for CAM practitioners & includes a drug database & some fact sheets.
