International Students

At LCTA we bring together students from all over the world with one passion: Chinese medicine. As you can see from the chart below, around 20% of our students are from outside the EU.

LCTA is an approved education provider by the UK Border Agency. We have a licence to teach international students and are on the Tier 4 Register of Sponsors. We are also actively working with the US to establish an equivalence with our qualification.

In order to obtain a student visa, you are required to undertake full-time study while you are in the UK. Our 3 year Acupuncture course, 2 year Tui Na course and 2 year Herbal Medicine courses are all studied on a full time basis and would be suitable for the purposes of applying for a visa. You can also combine one postgraduate course with the Acupuncture course if you wanted to become qualified in more than one discipline of Chinese medicine.

See Training for details on how you can combine courses together.

When choosing a course in Chinese medicine in the UK there are certain questions you should consider:

  • What support is provided by the College for international students?
  • Is the College on the UK Boarder Agency’s Register of Sponsors?
  • Can I use the qualification back in my own country?
  • Are there lots of other international students at the College?
  • What language is the course taught in?
  • How easy would it be for me to go home in the holidays to see my family?
  • Is the course fully accredited by the BAAB (www.baab.co.uk)
  • What style of acupuncture is taught - TCM, 5 Elements only, Western?
  • Would I prefer to be at a university or a private college?
